Release Manager

Department: Digital Platform Services – Engineering
Reporting Line: Global Technology Products – Change and Release Management Lead

Overview
The Release Manager role is part of Release, Change and TechOps (RCTO) in Digital and Platform Services
(DPS) Engineering. The role governs and coordinates the end-to-end release lifecycle, applying a shift-left
release management methodology to ensure readiness, compliance, and traceability from early
environments through to Production. Release Managers act as the coordination point across the
Engineering team, ensuring that releases progress smoothly through environments and into Production
under RCTO governance. By embedding governance early, the role safeguards production stability while
enabling faster, and more predictable delivery.


Purpose of the Role
The Release Manager governs and coordinates the release lifecycle, embedding compliance and
assurance into every stage to safeguard operational reliance and regulatory alignment. Key responsibility
areas: Release Planning

  • Establish release scope and timelines in line with delivery objectives, risk thresholds and operational
    readiness.
  • Secure alignment across delivery teams to ensure commitments are realistic and achievable.
  • Ensure the releq esswsA_}{ease calendar is the definitive reference for all release schedules. Release
    Readiness
  • Verify that Release Notes are complete, accurate and supported by required evidence including testing,
    approvals and risk assessments.
  • Confirm that rollback strategies are documented and validated before release progression.
  • Ensure all mandatory controls are met prior to submission for CAB approval. Release Coordination
  • Act as the central coordination point across Engineering function for all release activities.
  • Align dependencies, sequencing, and handoffs across teams to enable controlled progression of
    changes.
  • Escalate conflicts or constraints to be the appropriate governance forum for resolution. Risk and
    Exception Governance
  • Govern the identification, assessment, and documentation of release risks, dependencies, and
    exceptions.
  • Escalate material risks or deviations for decision at CAB or senior leadership level.
  • Ensure that exceptions are formally recorded, justified and approved.

Qualification Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Strong understanding of release governance, change management and SDLC compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complex, multi-team releases in a regulated environment.
  • Proven ability to assess risks, interpret technical evidence, and ensure compliance with governance
    standards.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate across
    business and technology.
  • Agile certifications (e.g. Agile Fundamentals Certification) is desirable.
  • Certified in ITIL v3 or v4 foundation is preferred. Preferred Skills:
  • Experience managing releases at enterprise scale, with exposure to multiple platforms and business
    domains.
  • Familiar with Agile delivery practices and DevOps operating model.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and release orchestration tools.
  • Knowledge of cloud environments (esp GCP) and their impact on release management.
  • Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), including
    their integration into CI/CD pipelines and governance of deployments across environments. • Ability to
    review and interpret technical artefacts such as manifest, SBOM reports, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Proficiency with project and issue tracking tools (e.g. JIRA) and release governance workflows.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to connect technical evidence to governance, risk, and
    compliance outcomes.
